Most likely the Germans are not the first nation that comes to mind when talking about party people. The German stereotype is more the workaholic who perhaps takes himself a little too seriously. I’m still trying to figure out how the Germans fooled the world into believing that they are so conscientious and industrious. The reality is in fact very different. Not only do the German’s enjoy comparatively short working weeks but they also have some of the longest holidays. That’s why whenever you travel abroad it’s almost inevitable that you will meet Germans. Also these days Germans are more and more willing to accept a lower salary for more time off to enjoy quality time with friends and family.
When they’re not working, it’s true that many Germans love watching football and when their team wins, you can be sure that the Germans party hard and long accompanied by friends and their favorite beer. You might be surprised to discover that the Germans have an incredibly rich variety of funny German words and phrases to talk about partying because it’s such a popular activity. For example the German equivalent of “to paint the town red” is “die Sau rauslassen” which literally means to let the pig out.
